Theodore Roosevelt Dam

Named after President Theodore Roosevelt, who was instrumental in approval of the Federal Reclamation Act of 1902, the construction of the Dam predated Arizona's statehood. Construction took place from 1905 to 1911, at one time the Dam was the tallest masonry Dam in the world. Dedication of the original Dam was done by Theodore Roosevelt and took place in March of 1911. The Dam is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, along with being named a National Historic Engineering Landmark.

The Dam is unique in the way it was originally constructed, it was the world's largest "cyclopean-masonry" Dam, a Greco-Roman style of building that uses huge, irregular blocks, it is now covered by new concrete.

In 1996, modification to the Dam was completed. The modification raised the height of the Dam 77ft. This made the Dam a total of 357 ft tall. This expanded the lake's storage capacity by 20%, enough for 1 million more people. The Dam has a hydrogenation capacity of 36,000 kW.

Roosevelt Lake Marina operates under permit with the Tonto National Forest.
